Loose or lost filling, crown or veneer
If your filling has come out or you are noticing food getting stuck between your teeth – contact us for an aesthetic and strong replacement.
If you have a regular dentist and prefer to see them after the initial repair, we can also place a temporary filling.
Adelaide Emergency Dental use exclusively tooth coloured restorative materials for our fillings, either composite resin or glass ionomer cements – sometimes in combination to ensure the ideal result for you.
Composite resins are tooth-coloured, plastic materials (made of glass and resin) that are used both as fillings and to repair defects in the teeth. Because they are tooth-coloured, it is difficult to distinguish them from natural teeth. Composites are often used on the front teeth where a natural appearance is important. They can be used on the back teeth as they are very strong.
Glass ionomer cements (GICs) are also tooth coloured, being made of a glass powder and water that becomes solid when set. GICs are used as a filling material for very decayed back teeth or as an insulation layer under composite resin fillings. GICs can be used as a temporary filling material, for example, during a course of root canal therapy. They are a good material to use when the necks of the teeth have been worn down from brushing and have not responded to desensitizing.
If you need an emergency filling do not hesitate to contact Adelaide Emergency Dental on 0407 111 117.
Loose or lost Crown or Veneer?
- Crown loose, broken or fallen out?
- Veneer de-bonded?
This embarrassing and uncomfortable problem can often be easily solved if attended to promptly.
If no decay or fracture exists upon the tooth and the loss of the crown or veneer is due to cement failure, the experts at Adelaide Emergency Dental are usually able to rebond the crown/veneer.
Crowns
Our crowns are laboratory made, custom-fit restorations that are considerably stronger that regular filling materials. They are indicated when you have a tooth that has been heavily broken down (either through wear and tear, fractures or decay) and needs to be protected from further damage.
Crowns are also used for aesthetic purposes when you wish to alter the colour, shape or position of a tooth or multiple teeth. If your dentist recommends a crown, it's probably to correct one of these issues. Your dentist's primary concern, like yours, is helping you keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright.
Crowns may be made from several materials, including gold, porcelain with metal, or porcelain only. Each material is indicated for different situations so speak to your dentist about which type of crown will benefit you most. Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth coloured shells of porcelain bonded to your front teeth to improve the appearance of dark, chipped, worn, or crooked teeth. Porcelain is a hard, wear-resistant, non-porous material that keeps its appearance for longer than tooth coloured composite resins.
Veneers
Veneers are excellent for treating chipped, discoloured, slightly misaligned or misshapen teeth and ideal for closing gaps between the teeth. They can be used to improve the shape, length, size and colour of teeth.
A minimal amount of tooth structure is removed and usually two visits are necessary to complete the procedure.
The first appointment to your dentist is used to prepare the tooth/teeth (that is, shave less than a millimetre off the front of the tooth) and then take impressions which are sent to a lab technician to make the veneer.
The second and final appointment is when the veneers are bonded to the teeth. They are less likely to chip or stain, and if properly maintained can last for many years.
